This drug ruined my life.
Informed consent would have made all the difference in my decision to take sertraline in the first place. My last 3 years have been hell finding my way tapering off this drug, a drug I was told was not addictive but then found out I was dependent on it. Doctors need to get up to date on the current information of these drugs. Thank God for the other countries sharing and the Facebook groups of communities helping one another through shared experiences of tapering off these drugs. We are out here on our own trying to survive what these drugs have done to us. Often the medical, doctors, have made us worse by telling us to taper too fast or skip every other day or change to another SSRI or add another one to the mix. It’s all very complicated and individual and there isn’t a quick fix. 30-50% of people will have trouble coming off these drugs and the rest may have an easy go of it. There’s no way of knowing which side that you will be on. That is why informed consent is so crucial to the decision on trying these drugs in the first place. I wish I knew then what I know now. I’m not a young person and years are being waisted trying to get my life back.
