Suggested text: There is a population without a voice. Medications that alter brain chemistry are too often prescribed at the first visit, without true informed consent and before safer options are fully explored. Patients deserve full disclosure of serious risks, and there must be a safe exit plan before these drugs are ever started. Too many people are left injured by improper deprescribing, abrupt changes, and a system that failed to plan for the consequences.
To add insult to injury, those that are started on these drugs experience euphoria and emotional blunting, unable to see the damage caused. It’s called Intoxication Anosognosia. We need safer Deprescribing Guidelines to protect families.
